I need some College Suggestions or Military Options?

I recently graduated from Diberville High School in Mississippi and have a 3.2 GPA and really love to work on cars and draw. I would like to go to a college (preferably a technical school) for automotive. I need some good suggestions that wont require me being too far away from my family and friends. I was also looking into the military. Im 6′4" and 225 pounds and got some muscle on me but not a biddy builder kind, the goes to the gym 3 times a week kind. So im built for it and think i can do well, but I’m still not sure what to do. Again, I would like to do something in the automotive fields so please help if you can. =)

One Response to “I need some College Suggestions or Military Options?”

You could enter the military right away, and ask to be put in a job that involves fixing equipment. You’d do that for a few years, then if you decide to leave the military, you’d use the GI Bill to pay for your training in automotive. Then do that for a career. The risk with this is that you may not get placed in a fixing equipment type job in the military.

Or you could go directly to school for automotive. Do that, and once that’s done, enter the military and ask to be put in a job that involves your education. The problem here is that you’d need to pay for your schooling, but the advantage is that because you had the auto education, it’s more likely that the military would place you into a related position once you’re in.

Either way, I think you will be able to get into the automotive field. Absolutely.

One option for you to look at instead of a trade school is your local community college. They may offer automotive as a trade, and if they do, they’ll be a lot less expensive than a trade school. It’s another option.

Of course, if you join the military, it’s very likely that you’ll end up far from your family and friends. So one additional option to consider is the National Guard. If you join the Guard, they will pay for your schooling, and you can go to school for automotive *while* you serve in the Guard. As a member of the Guard, you are based locally – although you can be deployed, that’s temporary, and your main base is local to your home.
